War, war never changes

Only this time it's console war.

The game industry has changed a lot since Microsoft joined the battle in AD. 2001 with their bulky XBOX. No more fancy exclusive games for a single console, the most popular word here is: multi-platform games. However that's only the starting point, Microsoft proactively "persuaded" game companies into making exclusive games for XBOX 360 only, and also, they purchased several studios to develop their own games. And just recently, PS3 was slashed to $299 together with launching a new slimmer model. We could expect the same price cut from Microsoft and Nintendo in very near future, maybe tomorrow.

Who can win this war? And now I am thinking about one man: Isao Okawa大川 功

How far can one man go?
And how far can one man's dream go?
The legend started in the name SEGA. Even now we could still appreciate the wonderful console names given to each SEGA console, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast. And yes, it's not the dull names like XBOX, GameCube or Family Computer. His dream, I mean Isao Okawa, is unlimited. But, unfortunely, after he spent one billion USD of his own money, after he passed away, SEGA never won the console war, his dream was never casted. Sometimes he reminds me about Michael Jackson, anyway it's another story.

Let's look at these BBC titles:

The dream ends. But war, war never changes.

Talking about this generation's console war, I was never a fanboy to any of those big companies and I almost owned all recently released consoles(to be precise, eleven consoles). But I dislike the way of Microsoft, how they handle their business, mainly the console gaming business. I dislike this one kind of attitude: one believes too much in himself and thinks he is smartest guy in the world. You should know that pride doesn't equal to arrogance. Look at the funny story of Microsoft about the RROD, we could imagine what actually happened there: a smartest director decided they should come out the hardware design all by themselves so they could save a lot of money (the amount is less than ten million dollars). Yes, we all know that, Microsoft only hires the most intelligent people around the world. However, intelligence doesn't mean one thing: smart or say wisdom. You think know everything but actually you know nothing, and this kind of story happens every single minute. So later, Microsoft paid billions of dollars to regain the reputation from failed hardware design.

War, war never changes. But I still hope, there'll be another dream coming out sometime, unnecessary to be successful anyway. But I highly doubt that, the console war is still business. Since it's all about business, it's all about money. Dream and money, they are two different things.

Okay, give you a final image as the end:

Doubt

I really have doubt, but, not the hypocritical doubt coming from the 2008 movie.

Speaking of my favorite movie, which is Waterworld, I have doubt. And about Southland tales, I have doubt too.

Once again, I found my answer by myself. Okay I have forgot to mention my question: why people, so few people, could actually appreciate the true gems?

The answer is plain and straightforward: it's just because the stupid director feels himself so distinguish or he becomes angry at his life, so he let everything come out at once and don't care about his audience. Maybe a bit more straightforward: A writer needs to decide whether he will write for himself or he will write for the readers. Maybe now you could understand my doubt, like what Maugham had been wondering in The Razor's Edge.

PS: Dun expect you could understand what I am talking about unless you have read some Philip Kindred Dick.
